For the most part, Korg’s microSAMPLER is your average music sampling keyboard, but the inclusion of an iPod/iPhone slot is a nice touch (no pun intended). All you have to do is record a bit of music from your player, and it’s mapped onto the keyboard for playback at various pitches. You can also use gates and loops to control the flow of samples, and you can, of course, manipulate your samples as well, with effects such as distortion, EQ, reverb, delay, chorus and looper. With four hours of battery life on AA batteries, the microSAMPLER is certainly a more robust DJ option than fiddling around with music apps on your iPhone, but at$750, it’s also a lot more expensive.
