The Nexus One will be my backup phone. Here’s some F.Y.I. on plans and such things. This is the best feature comparison of the top smart phones that I’ve seen.

If this decade begin with the bust of the tech bubble, then the decade might just end with technology back in the headline, more specifically, the raise of mobile platform. On the eve of the most important technology trade show, Consumer Electronic Show (C.E.S.), search engine giant Google is gearing up for one of its most important product launch, and this time it isn’t a software. Instead, the company will officially debut Nexus One, or more commonly known as the “Google Phone”.

The build-up to this anticipated launch really found its start when Google purchased a small start-up named Android back in 2005. 2 years later, the company launched its first mobile OS with the same name and plugged it in a consortium of some 47 corporations called Open Handset Alliance. When tech pundits speculated a Google stand alone phone in the near future, Dr. Eric Schmidt, Google’s CEO, was quick to point out its unlikeness in a press release. And despite its denial, the company’s actions proved otherwise. Finally, the proverbial line in the sand was drawn last August when Dr. Schmidt resigned from Board of Directors of Apple, currently the #1 maker of smart phones.

So how good of a smart phone is Nexus One? Ahead of the official debut at Google headquarter in Mountain View this morning, tech mega blog Engadget got its hands on one. Its verdict – the phone lives up to the anticipation. Manufactured by Taiwanese mobile device OEM, HTC, the Snapdragon powered phone resembled the curvilinear shape of its competitor, Apple iPhone. Yet retained many physical attributes of its predecessors, the T-Mobile G1. Nexus One will feature the latest version of Android, the Android 2.1, which translates to a more responsive and faster OS. via: Engadget

*NOTE* Interesting enough, not only today marks the eve of Consumer Electronic Show. Its also the birthday of Sir Issac Newton, who explained the law of gravity when a supposed “APPLE” fell on his head…

Other specs on the phone are:

Height 119mm (4.68-inch) x Width 59.8mm (2.35-inch) x Depth 11.5mm (0.45-inch)

The conglomerate known as Google has released an official developer preview of Google Chrome for the Mac. Chrome is supposed to be a big deal.

Chrome samples several features similar to Safari 4 in Snow Leopard, such as sandboxing – each tab runs as its own process, so if one crashes, it doesn’t bring down the whole browser. It also sports the “tabs on top” interface present in some builds of the Safari 4 beta released earlier this year. Some people hated tabs on top in Safari, but others eventually got used to it and even missed the feature when it was omitted from the final release of Safari 4; if tabs on top is your thing, then Chrome has you covered. Chrome supports importing bookmarks, settings, and history from whatever browser you’re currently using
